This year, The European Weightlifting Youth Championships were held in the small City of Nowy Tomysl in Poland between the 10th and 17th September 2016.
A number of 297 athletes from 32 European countries were split in four different groups, Boys and Girls Under 15 and Under 17, in which there were 7 categories for girls and 8 categories for boys. In this competition 30 different categories were split in 35 competitions due to high number of participants.
The competition was a successful one with a good number of new European records broken totaling of 33, in which 27 of these new records were from the boys under 15.
The Malta weightlifting Association were represented by two technical officials, Jesmond Caruana with the duty of President of Jury and Gayle Caruana as referee. Gayle Caruana sit for examinations to obtain higher category, she successfully passed theory and practical examination for Category 1 IWF International Referee which is the highest ranked official in Weightlifting.
