4th place in the European Youth Championships

Young Maltese weightlifters achieved impressive results at the European Youth Championships held in Thessaloniki, Greece, this week.
The best result came from Kim Camilleri Lagana, competing in the 49kg category. Despite recovering from an injury and balancing training with SEC examinations, she placed 4th, triumphing over competitors from Spain, Great Britain, Italy, and more. Kim successfully completed all six of her attempts, lifting 60kg, 63kg, and 65kg in the Snatch, and 78kg, 81kg, and 83kg in the Clean & Jerk, totaling 148kg. France won first place, followed by Bulgaria and Greece.
In the 55kg category U-15, Nathan Mifsud also had a notable performance, lifting 73kg in the Snatch and 92kg in the Clean & Jerk. He achieved a personal best, increasing his total by 7kg and finishing 9th, ahead of athletes from Greece, Slovakia, and Turkey. Nathan also set new national records.
Aaliyah Gatt competed in the 59kg category. Despite a shaky start in the Snatch, she succeeded with 58kg on her third attempt. In the Clean & Jerk, she missed her first attempt at 77kg but succeeded with 77kg and 80kg in subsequent attempts. Her total was enough to surpass competitors from Greece and Denmark in the Clean & Jerk. This was Aaliyah’s first experience on such a large stage.
Kaya Curmi Inguanez, competing in the 55kg category, lifted 57kg in the Snatch and 72kg in the Clean & Jerk. Although it was not her best day, Kaya remained competitive in this high-level competition.
