Good results for our boys in San Marino

The San Marino Weightlifting Cup 2018 has come to an end this weekend with an excellent performance by the Maltese Weightlifting National team. The competition held in the Republic of San Marino brought together athletes from around Central Italy including Rome, Lazio and Parma and other neighbouring countries such as Switzerland, Monaco and Croatia together with the hosting country San Marino.

The Maltese team was made up of Anton Micallef, Shaun Ciantar and Ryan Paul Degiorgio. For the latter two, this was their first ever international participation in an international weightlifting event. The team was headed by coach Kurt Camilleri.

Ciantar and Degiorgio (-77kgs) battled in the Men Group B category and both managed to secure a personal best on their respective clean and jerk lifts with 122kgs and 104kgs respectively. This result placed the Maltese athletes in 1st and 3rd position in the under 77kgs category with a total of 212kgs and 185kgs respectively.

On the other hand, Micallef (-94kgs) was competing in the Men Group A category. With his confidence and experience, the Maltese athlete managed to secure a personal best in both the Snatch (107kgs) and Clean & Jerk (131kgs). With a total of 238kgs he positioned himself in 3rd place of the under 94kgs category.

Thanks to Malta Olympic Committee for their support.
