The Malta Weightlifting Association organised recently its last event for this year, the MWA Awards.
The event started with the presentation of trophies for the participants of the National Championships, other presentations were for the four new category referees, Stephen Borg, Rodienne Balzan, Gayle Caruana and Ramona Borg.
The Most Improvement Award for a New Comers was won by Emersin Bugeja 102 points followed by Kieran Mifsud 55 points and Owen Bugeja 48 points.
In the Most Improvement Award for Women was won by Ivana Micallef 24 points followed by Nicole Gatt 22 points and Nadine Gatt. The Men section was won by Malcom Camilleri 94 points followed by Joran Farrugia 65 points and Chris Schinas 45 points.
The Most achievement Award is won by those athletes who break the most National Records.
During this year 123 national records were broken; the men section was won by Joran Farrugia with 29 national records while the women section was won by Nicole Gatt with 58 National Records.
Other athletes that broke national records trough the 2012 were Ivana Micallef, Rodmar Pulis, Hayden Farrugia, Malcom Camilleri and Destiny Vella Busutill.
The Most Promising athlete for this year was won by Rodmar Pulis.
The President of the association Mr. Jesmond Caruana presented a commutative plaque to the new Honorary President of the MWA Mr. Alfred Ellul Mercer.
In a short speech the president said that this was another successful year considering the number of participants, the achievement in records and the positive results in the international scene.
For the 2013 plan he said that the importance now is that the Malta team achieves a good result in the Mediterranean Cup in Italy next month.
Particular emphases were on the organisation of the international competitions to be held in Malta next April.
