MWA Awards 2014

The Malta Weightlifting Association organised its annual event the MWA Awards 2014.

A splendid day for athletes and their coaches to see their hard year of training and sacrifice, rewarded on this special day.

The first presentations on this occasion were for the athletes that participated in the last National championships, in which these athletes received trophies for their high results.

The second part of the presentations was dedicated to the annual special awards, these where presented by the MOC Sport director Mr. Mario Micallef.

The Most Improvement award for the new comers was won by Sarah Grixti with 65 points followed by Hayley Mizzi 44 points and Calvin Dean Caruana 29 points.

The Most improvement Award was won by Kieran Mifsud with 54 points followed by Kyle Micallef and Ryan Agius both 47 points.

Owen Bugeja and Andy Grech finished 3rd both with 44 points. Ryan Agius was honored with the Most Promising athlete award.

The Achievement Award was given to the most athlete that broke national records in a year. In fact a total of 121 national records were broken from 11 athletes, this shows a great achievement for the association.

The winner in this category was 15 year old Kieran Mifsud that broke 36 records both in youth U-17 and Junior U-20 categories.

The top seven high ranked athletes were also honored with individual awards; Rodmar Pulis, Kyle Micallef and Malcolm Camilleri were presented with the National level Bronze award.

Nicole Gatt, Jessica Edge and Owen Bugeja reached the Master level Silver award. While Kieran Mifsud was honoured with the International level award, this is the highest award that local athletes can achieve.

This was a very successful year for the athletes but most of all for Mifsud winning in three different categories.

For this occasion the president of the Association Jesmond Caruana announced that the association received the confirmation that Malta is going to organise the Mediterranean weightlifting Cup next March. This is a very big event that all of us will make it a real
