Great achievement for Malta Weightlifting’s History. This year for the very first time a Maltese athlete is going to participate in Rio Olympic Games
Rodmar Pulis, Â initially was preparing for this place but unfortunately he injured during the OG qualification event of the European Championship in Forde, Norway. Kyle Micallef gained this prestigious spot, after he participated in OG qualification event with success this time in the IWF Grand prix in Tehran, Iran.
This is also thanks to the Malta Olympic Committee, the IWF and the tripartite commission through IOC.
Jesmond Caruana, President of Malta Weightlifting, which he also is the head coach of the association will accompany Kyle Micallef in this adventure.
Mr.Caruana said looking back on what was achieved in this last Olympic cycle is incredible and he has been only running this association for last 6 years. In fact in the OG 2012, he participated as Technical official but he always wanted something more, his priorities were always his athletes. The association managed to participate in all the Games that were eligible to.
- 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin with Rodmar Pulis
- 2013 Universidad Games in Kazan with Rodmar Pulis
- 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with Jessica Edge
- 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjig with Nicole Gatt
- 2015 Youth Commonwealth Games in Apia with Keiran Mifsud.
This is the fruit of hard work from athletes, coaches, administrators and helpers.
