The Malta Weightlifting Association took part in the Mediterranean Cup held in Cairo, Egypt.
In terms of results, the Maltese team did not achieve its best performances, as the main focus remains on the upcoming World Championships and European Juniors. However, this competition served as an important step in their preparation.
First on stage was Roberta Tabone, who opened at 83kg in the Snatch. Unfortunately, she was unable to complete the lift after three attempts and had to withdraw from the competition.
Next was Tenishia Thornton, who started strongly with an 84kg Snatch but struggled to progress further. In the Clean and Jerk, she attempted 104kg, but the lift was unsuccessful as she experienced pain in her wrist.
The final Maltese athlete was Rylee Borg. He was unable to complete his Snatch attempts at 120kg but recovered well in the Clean and Jerk, opening at 151kg and successfully lifting 155kg.
The Malta Weightlifting Association would like to thank the Malta Olympic Committee, SportMalta, and the Mediterranean Weightlifting Confederation for their invaluable support.
