Pulis in the European Senior Championships

The Malta Weightlifting Association competed for the first time in the European Senior Championships, in Forde, Norway with Rodmar Pulis.

Being a qualifying event for this year’s edition of the Summer Olympics, during this championship, Pulis went head to head with the European giants aiming at securing his spot in Rio.

Rodmar, lifted in the under 77kg category and during the competition he was assisted by the Italian coach Domenico Marzullo. In the Snatch phase Pulis opened the competition with a confident 107kg and topped it with 111kg in his second attempt. Being in great form, Pulis started his Clean and Jerk with a strong 140kg. He then moved up to a national record attempt of 145kg which despite him completing the lift successfully, it was overruled by the referees as an invalid attempt due to a technical fault.

Pulis finished the competition with a total of 251kg, accumulating 320 points, thus equaling his results obtained in Cyprus. In Spite of not being his best performances this season, Pulis obtained the 24th place, bettering the results achieved by athletes from Norway and Albania. Moreover, these results inaugurate well for Pulis’ prospects of qualifying in the Olympic Games. However, the final decision will be taken only after all the continental qualifying events are finished and the final confirmation will be published on the 15th of June.

The Malta Weightlifting Association would like to thank all those who were involved in obtaining this success, especially Sport Malta and Maltese Olympic Committee, whom without their constant support, participating in such event wouldn’t have been possible.
