16 year old Rodmar Pulis took part in the ‘Italian Under 17 Weightlifting Championship’. This was one of Rodmar’s greatest experiences so far in this sport. With his performance in this event he managed to attract allot of attention from Italian officials when he managed an 87kg snatch getting him third place and a Clean & Jerk of 108Kg placing him second. His total of 195Kg in both lifts earned him second place together with another Italian lifter. Pulis was accompanied by Coach Stephen Borg and the Association’s president Mr. Jesmond Caruana.
With these lifts Pulis has managed yet again to break four national records in 77Kg category in the Snatch and the Totals in both categories of the Youths and the Juniors.
The preparations Pulis is currently going through are expected to reach their climax next August in Poland when Pulis will compete in the European Championships. Pulis will also be part of the Maltese team competing in the Small Nations Tournament in Monaco at the end of this month. At the end of May he will take part in the Island Games demonstration competition which will be held in Palermo. This participation was only made possible through the friendly bond which exists between the Malta Weightlifting Association and the Italian Weightlifting Federation. Jesmond Caruana held further talks with Italian officials during these championships to strengthen the friendship that already exists between these two countries.
