Successful 2nd Ranking Competition

The Malta weightlifting Association organised successfully the 2nd ranking competition, it was a very important one since it was the last preparation for national team before their commitment next weekend in the European Small Nations Competition in Cyprus.

This competition was also a test event for the European Union Championship to be held in Malta 5th to 8th May.

The first competition was for cadets , a nice number of youngsters participated with the best results for boys coming from Rylee Borg with 129 points Best result for girls came from Shelby Vassallo with 94 Points.

The second competition was for men in group B the athletes these athletes showed an excellent performance with most of the athlete in this group were newcomers. Chris Schinas lifting a total of 170kg and score 230 points, he was followed by Andre Buhagiar and  Jannik Pace both finish with 210 points. Vlad Baldacchino and Micheal Fava  score 191 points

 

The third competition of the day was for women.  The entire athletes did their best and most of national records broken came from these categories. Placing first in the senior competition was Pamela Psaila lifting the total of 140 kilo and score 191 points, she set four new national records in the 63kg category. The 2nd place went Yazmin Zammit Stevens lifting the total of 139kg and score 179points, she also set a new national records in the 69kg category, both Psaila and Zammit will be in action again this week in Cyprus. The 3rd place went for Dorianne Attard with 161 points; she had a tight finish with Kristen Borg 160 points and Elisia Scicluna with 158 points.

The best youth athlete was Shazel Gusman lifing the total of 96kg while the best female junior was Rebecca Fitz lifting the total of 100kg and set seven new national records in the 69kg category.

 

The last competition of the day was for men seniors, finishing in first was Kyle Micallef with a total of 262kg and score 311 points he attempted to set new national records in the 94kg category but even if he was so close it was unsuccessful one. He was followed by Rodmar Pulis and Ryan Agius with 295, 290 points all the three athletes will be in action again next weekend in Cyprus.

Good results came from Matthew Camilleri lifting the total of 228kg scoring 274 points, Martin Pisani lifting the total of 235kg scoring 257 points and Anton Micallef lifting the total of 211kg scoring 245 points. The best result in the junior came from Andy Grech lifting 190kg and score 240 points.
