Summer event for Youths and Cadets

This week the Malta Weightlifting Association organised a competition for youths and cadets. Three clubs took part in this competition, which were Cottonera, Falcons and Starmax who had the greatest number of athletes participating.

The athletes who took part were between ten and fifteen years. For most of the participants this was their first competitive experience.

The Male Cadet Section was won by Miguel Grixti with 92 points, followed by Isaac Fava, Kurt Micallef and Malcolm Camilleri.

The winner of The Female Cadet section was Beatrix Galea with 66 points followed by Andrea Busutill.

Thomas Farrugia managed to win The Male Youths Section with 156 points, followed by Luca Grixti and Ryan Borg. Nicole Gatt won The Female Youths Section with 123 points followed by Destiny Vella Busutill, Victoria Battistino, Ivana Micallef, Nadine Gatt and Oriana Cachia.

Ten national records were broken during this competition. Six of these records were broken by Nicole Gatt in the 48 Kg category when she lifted 50Kg Clean & Jerk and gained a total of 80Kg .

With this total she broke records in the Youths , Juniors and even Seniors categories. Destiny Vella Bustill broke four records in the 63Kg category in the Youths and the Juniors when she lifted 50Kg Clean & Jerk gaining a total of 85Kg.

The competition was run and refereed by Jesmond Caruana and co-ordinated by Mark Farrugia .

Rodmar Pulis participated in this Competition as part of his final preparation for the European Youth Championships  to be held in Ciechonow Poland next week. Pulis will be accompanied by Jesmond Caruana president of the Association. On the Invitation of the European Weightlifting Federation Mr.Caruana will be conducting duties as a Technical Official during this competition.
