The Malta sole representative in the European weightlifting Junior championships, Tenishia Thornton competed in the 59kg category finals. These championships are being held in Bucharest Romania.
Tenishia had a good start in the Snatch portion with a starting lift of 81kg, this list was enough to beat athletes from France, Germany, Sweden, Romania, Norway and Czech Republic. On her 2nd attempt Tenishia lifted 83kg and managed to surpass Poland and Spain. Unfortunately for Tenishia she failed her 3rd and final attempt at 85kg that put her in 6th place. With Snatch medals going to Ukraine and Italy.
In her Clean and Jerk Tenishia found some difficulties during her warming up as she felt some knee pain. She started at 100kg but she missed her first attempt. More determined she goes again for 100kg but this time Thornton did not fail. This lift was very important to put her again on the scoreboard. Tenishia went for 2kg higher but she did not push herself so she concluded the competition at a total of 183kg that placed her in 7th place
