- Malta Represented by Two Young Athletes at 40th Subotica Tournament
A team of two young athletes represented Malta at the 40th Subotica International Tournament, competing against teams from Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and the host country, Serbia.
Competing first for Malta in the 65kg category, Luke Stefan Micallef delivered an impressive performance. He recorded a personal best Snatch of 101kg, followed by a 125kg Clean and Jerk, which was a new national record. Luke finished the competition with an excellent total of 226kg.
In the 85kg category, Nathaniel Fenech also produced a strong performance, lifting 113kg in the Snatch and 146kg in the Clean and Jerk. His combined total of 259kg was a new personal best.
The Subotica tournament provided a valuable opportunity for both young Maltese athletes to gain international competition experience and test themselves against strong opposition from across Europe.
Their performances are an encouraging step forward as they continue their preparation and build towards their upcoming international events.
